How we write and share beam notes

Every note here is from someone who actually sets up and reviews jobs at our Sunnyrock HQ. We focus on what works on real production floors across South Africa: tricks for getting cleaner cuts, habits that save optics, and mark settings that last through coating or abrasion.

Ms Kelebogile Nxumalo leads first-article reviews, Mr Marnus Viljoen covers cutting routines and maintenance checks, Ms Firdous Bassier writes on marking, while Mr Neels Jansen and Ms Busisiwe Ngqula focus on tube, plate and edge prep.

Using beam notes in your workshop

The beam notes tackle the details that make a difference: keeping your protective window clean, setting up effective nests and pierce sequences, getting the right clamp pressure on tubes, or choosing the best assist gas for the sheet you are working.

You will find reminders on logging first-article marks, guidance on making codes that stay readable after powder coating, and practical advice for deep engraving or fine micro marking. Each note is kept short enough to use on the shop floor without paging through a manual.

  • Check the protective window before each shift
  • Review the nest and pierce order before starting a batch
  • Record first-article settings for repeat runs
  • Never laser PVC or coated unknowns
  • Match assist gas to the metal and finish needed
