What TubeCut R8 is made to do

TubeCut R8 is a rotary tube cutting system purpose-built for South African fabrication, agricultural and trailer shops using steel, stainless or aluminium tube. It handles round pipe, RHS and oval profiles in the sizes common on local fab floors.

This system uses a rotary axis and soft jaw clamping to cut clean mitres, holes and complex fish-mouths for frames, rails and structural tube work. TubeCut R8 keeps part rotation and clamp pressure steady, so thin wall and mixed stock nests run with fewer rejects.

It is well suited for production where you need repeatable cuts on tubes that must fit up for welding or assembly, including furniture, handrails, chassis parts and implement frames.

How TubeCut R8 fits into your workflow

On the floor, TubeCut R8 keeps things practical: the rotary fixture holds tubes firmly while the fibre laser cuts exact mitre angles and notches. The soft jaw kit means thin wall tubes are gripped without being crushed, and consistent rotation means cut features line up on all sides.

We supply tube nest briefs with rotation and clamp cues, so operators can load RHS, pipe and oval in sequence and get predictable results every time. Nest tags and fixture notes help keep track of short runs and mixed stock without confusion.

Manual handling is straightforward and no console trickery is needed. TubeCut R8 helps smaller and growing shops cut trailer chassis, machine frames and agri implements faster, with fewer weld gaps and no extra grinding.

Choosing TubeCut R8 versus other FibreLaser SA systems

TubeCut R8 is the right fit if your main work is frames, handrails, furniture or agri implements using tube stock. For flat sheet and plate, CutLine 1500 or PlateGate XL are our go-to cutting systems, while WeldPrep Beam is for bevels and weld edge prep.

For marking, BeamDesk Mini and Mark Pro 30 do asset tags and serials on tube, but TubeCut R8 is the system for rotary cutting. If you are nesting both flat and tube features, speak to us about integrated nest briefs for mixed runs.

  • TubeCut R8: rotary tube, pipe, oval
  • CutLine 1500: flat sheet
  • PlateGate XL: large plate and thick wear parts
  • WeldPrep Beam: bevel and edge prep
  • BeamDesk Mini / Mark Pro 30: marking on tube

Site requirements and safety for TubeCut R8

TubeCut R8 is a Class 4 fibre laser system. The open rotary fixture exposes operators to invisible laser radiation between 1064 and 1080 nm, which can cause permanent eye damage and burns. Proper laser safety eyewear with a certified optical density at the fibre wavelength is compulsory. Standard CO2 eyewear does not protect against fibre lasers.

You need a Radiation Control use licence from SAHPRA for each TubeCut R8, and the site must comply with OHS Act and Driven Machinery Regulations, including emergency stops, interlocks and guarding. Extraction with filtration is essential to control metal fume from cutting (especially zinc and stainless). Never cut PVC tube, as it releases corrosive and harmful gas.

Power supply is normally 400 V three-phase at 50 Hz, and fixed wiring must carry a Certificate of Compliance from a registered electrician. Cooling is by a closed-loop water chiller specified for the machine: on the Highveld, protect against winter frost, and in humid regions, watch for condensation.

What to send us for a quotation or sample part run

To quote or demonstrate TubeCut R8, we need a drawing or sketch of your tube profiles and features to be cut, and the material spec (grade, wall thickness, profile shape and size).

Let us know your typical nest (RHS, round, oval, or mixed), any special fit-up needs like mitres or fish-mouths, and production volume. If possible, share your preferred file format (DXF, STEP or PDF).

Our applications lead, Ms Kelebogile Nxumalo, runs first-article reviews at Sunnyrock HQ. We can organise a sample cut if you send us a message through our contact form.
