Operator checks for each day and week

Routine inspection is key for heavy plate and wear part work. Before each shift, confirm the area is clear of loose debris, the air supply is dry and oil-free, and all interlocks are active. Be especially careful with the extraction system, plate cutting on PlateGate XL makes a lot of fume and fine dust.

Check all access panels and emergency stops. For a clean, safe cut, you need a clear beam path and stable cooling. Keep a daily log of what you find, and hand over any issues during shift change.

  • Clean and inspect the protective window under the head
  • Wipe and check the nozzle for spatter, dross or warping
  • Check lens clarity and chiller coolant level
  • Empty and clean pre-filters and main filters in the extraction
  • Test interlocks, emergency stops and light curtains
  • Check for coolant or oil leaks under the bed

Scheduled service from our technicians

PlateGate XL needs planned service according to usage hours and the environment. Our team handles annual or usage-based checks, from full lens and optics cleaning to software and safety system reviews. Coastal and mining sites may need more frequent visits to handle salt, humidity and abrasive dust.

Book a service window through our contact form if your machine flags a persistent error or you suspect misalignment. We’ll send a technician who knows the model and South African conditions.

Consumables and spares to keep on hand

Downtime is expensive, so stock core consumables in your toolroom. For PlateGate XL, that means several spare nozzles, a set of protective windows, and at least one spare lens. Chiller coolant (as specified for your head), lubrication for moving parts, and a set of main extraction filters should also be available.

For bigger jobs or material changes, keep a note of the last used pierce settings and nest briefs, so you’re not scrambling for parameters if you swap operators or do a quick turnaround.

  • Nozzles (matched to your common plate thickness)
  • Protective windows (cover slides)
  • At least one spare cutting lens
  • Chiller coolant and lubricants
  • Main and pre-filters for extraction

What to send us if your system develops a problem

Start by logging the error on your shift sheet. When you send us a message, include the PlateGate XL serial number (on the main frame), a description of the issue, and photos of the affected area. Note the material and thickness being cut, and what changed just before the problem started.

Did you change assist gas, swap consumables, update software or move the bed? Details speed up fault finding. If you have a recurring fault, keep a copy of your last successful nest brief or cutting file when you contact us.

  • PlateGate XL system and serial number
  • Photos showing the fault, cuts and nozzle
  • Material type and thickness
  • Assist gas settings in use
  • What changed before the issue (consumables, file, material)
