What each CutLine 1500 spec means for real parts
The 1.5 kW fibre class source on CutLine 1500 is designed for cutting mild steel and stainless in typical fabrication shops. This wattage balances speed and edge finish on common thicknesses used for signage, panels and machine parts. You can expect reliable results on mild steel and stainless, provided the correct assist gas is used and the cutting parameters are set for your sheet.
A 1500 mm class bed accommodates standard sheet sizes found in local supply, making it practical for regular jobs without custom stock. Nesting with SheetNest Pro also reduces waste by mapping out the most efficient use of your sheet, tailored to your part geometry and order size.
What the specs do not tell you about your job
Specs list the headline capabilities, but actual performance depends on your material, prep and part type. For example, the edge quality on powder-coated mild steel, or the detail on stainless tags, cannot be guaranteed without cutting samples from your own stock.
We always recommend a first-article run on your material at Sunnyrock HQ. This hands-on session reveals how your thickness, coatings, and gas choice affect speed, dross, and finish. You see edge results and potential remnant sizes before you commit to production.
Site and utilities to plan before install
A proper site setup is essential for safe and smooth operation. Factor in space for the cutting cell, raw material handling and maintenance access. CutLine 1500’s controller and source require stable power and cooling.
South African regulations require a licensed three-phase electrical supply (400 V, 50 Hz) with a Certificate of Compliance. Local exhaust extraction with filtration is needed to control fumes. Position gas cylinders safely in line with SANS 10019, and plan for routine delivery and storage.
- Flat, level floor for 1500 mm class bed and access
- 400 V three-phase supply with CoC
- Local exhaust extraction for fumes
- Chilled water supply for source and head
- Safe gas cylinder storage and delivery route
Key questions to ask before you compare quotes
Before you finalise your shortlist, clarify what is included in each quote: Is SheetNest Pro software standard? Are sample cuts on your own material offered? What is the support response for first-article queries or parameter setup?
Ask if the quote covers not only the machine, but training at Sunnyrock HQ and on-site signoff, all guarding and required interlocks, and local compliance with OHS and SAHPRA. If your shop sometimes works with reflective alloys or coated sheet, check if the source and optics are rated for that use.
- Does the quote include SheetNest Pro?
- Are first-article runs on my material available?
- What training and support are included?
- Are all safety interlocks and guarding supplied?
- Are site compliance checks covered?
