Remnant tag set

The remnant tag set is a practical tool for tracking metal offcuts and sheet leftovers on the shop floor. Request the latest printable sheets by sending us a message through our contact form.

Who uses remnant tags and why they matter

Remnant tags are for fabrication teams, production supervisors and operators managing sheet, plate and tube stock. They hang directly on offcuts or leftovers that are big enough to use again, no more guessing what a scrap is fit for.

By tagging remnants with clear, up-to-date information, you help avoid waste, speed up the search for usable pieces and make sure nobody cuts up a piece meant for another job. The system works in any workshop running fibre laser cutting or marking, from heavy plate to thin sheet.

What the tag shows and how to fill it in

Each tag has space for key details needed in real production. Always fill in the fields with a permanent marker or pencil that won’t rub off in the store. If the tag is printed double-sided, use the back for extra notes or exceptions.

Before attaching the tag, double-check the information is up to date and clear. If the job changes or a piece is cut down further, update the tag or replace it with a new one.

  • Material grade and thickness
  • Dimensions of the remnant (length, width, thickness or diameter where relevant)
  • Date and shift
  • Job or work order reference
  • Intended use or restrictions (e.g. ‘For trial cuts only’)
  • Operator initials and any special notes

How to use remnant tags on the shop floor

Attach the tag securely to the remnant as soon as it is taken off the machine. Store tagged remnants in a designated area or rack, not mixed with general scrap. The shift lead or operator checks tags at the start of each shift, if anything is unclear or missing, update the tag or log the exception for review.

If a tag shows a mismatch (such as a different grade, a wrong dimension or an unknown origin), do not use the piece until the information is double-checked. Take a clear photo of the tag and remnant, note the issue, and send it to your supervisor or FibreLaser SA for advice.
